What should your insurance premium be spent on?

We live in an economy driven by marketing forces.  It has become necessary to project the witty sound bite or cute image that connects with the public whether you are the local grocerer, attorney, politician or an insurance company.  As an independent agent I am naturally a little sensitive to the contant drum beat created by the millions upon millions of dollars that “direct writer”  insurance companies (i.e. Companies that only sell insurance directly through their own employees, mail, phone or internet service.)  spend to advertise their image or slogans.  Often they berate the idea of premium going to a so called middle man.

What they don’t explain is that the independent middle man is the one that truly represents you in a dispute with the insurance company, and yes disputes do occur.  The middle man is the independent agent whose success in business relies on satisfying clients, not companies.  The independent agent gives the client choice and the ability to find a company that matches the needs of the client.

Over the years I have found that when equal coverage is quoted against the direct writer we are very good at competing and beating them at the price game.  I have found that my commission for representing you as an independent agent is usually not as expensive to you as the big advertising budgets of the direct writer.

So when someone asks me about one of those ads claiming they can save you 15%,  I just tell them that our clients pay premium for a local agent to personally represent them and then get to enjoy the cute little lizard ads for free.  mhd
